Just before the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Xbox is stopping its historic cheap Game Pass deals, much to the annoyance of players wanting to load into the action without breaking the bank.
A week before Treyarch’s sixth Black Ops title is set to drop, the option to buy a two-week subscription for just $1 has completely disappeared. If you want to play on day one, you’ll have to pay full price.
Call of Duty’s arrival on Game Pass is a day many players have waited for and with Black Ops 6 expected to be one of the biggest releases of the year, Microsoft looks to generate some incredible sales figures.
The right decision?
Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, Xbox has hiked the price of all subscription tiers with some fans blaming Call of Duty’s arrival on the increase. Alongside the higher price, you’ll have to purchase the Ultimate tier to play as soon as the servers are switched on.
Alongside the removal of the one-dollar deal, Xbox has removed all free Game Pass trials meaning fans have no way of trying out the newest CoD game and its innovations without having to fork out. While some players aren’t best pleased with Microsoft’s decision, others have accepted the business decision. “Not surprised,” writes one user. Another adds: “20$ a month to play Black Ops 6? Might as well just spend the 70$.”
On the other hand, there’s so much more to Game Pass than just access to Call of Duty, Microsoft’s subscription service features a vast library of games in addition to an EA Play subscription giving you unprecedented access to a huge selection of classics, underrated indies, and the latest triple-A games topping the charts.
In addition to the launch of Black Ops 6, Call of Duty fans expect the entire franchise to be added as part of Game Pass. When you have access to every entry into the shooter series, the lack of cheap subscriptions won’t be a concern.
Should you buy Game Pass for Black Ops 6?
Purchasing a Game Pass subscription solely for Black Ops 6 is counter-intuitive. With so many other great games included, sticking to just one game for $20 a month doesn’t make sense. If you plan on sticking with Call of Duty exclusively, consider spending the full price for one of the editions that are available.
