Starfield isn’t a terrible game. In fact, sometimes it can be quite good with some awesome quests hidden in its overly large universe. Even after the release of the awesome Oblivion Remastered, there are still some people playing Bethesda’s troubled sci-fi game, but the game’s biggest modders are throwing in the towel.

In an update to fans, Starfield Community Patch lead Pickysaurus revealed that the team behind the game’s biggest, most important, mod will no longer be working on the game. Confirmed in the Starfield Modding Discord, the project lead explained that the modders working on the project neither have the “time or motivation to curate the patch”.

Starfield Community Patch ends development

The Starfield Community Patch was last updated on September 30, 2024 and fixes “misplaces objects, script errors, faulty missions/quests” and more. Prior to recent events, the patch was updated fairly frequently, but the team has now spent over half a year without an update.

In the message to fans, Pickysaurus revealed that his time has been taken up by personal matters, but other developers simply aren’t interested in working on the game anymore.

“Other members of the team have found themselves disenchanted with the game for various reasons – lack of replay-ability, the paid modding situation, moved on to playing new games, etc,” the project lead told fans.

While the current team is no longer working on the Starfield Community Patch, Pickysaurus explained that the website will still be active for somebody else to pick up the mantle. However, if “nobody comes forward” the team “may have to retire the project” and point fans towards the controversial Unofficial Starfield Patch by Arthmoor.

While the game’s biggest and most important mod may be abandoned, for lack of a better phrase, there are still Starfield modders. At the time of writing, dozens of mods have been released for the game over the past week including weapons, planets, locations and more. However, it is clear that the game has failed to garner the same decades-long hyperactive modding scene as Bethesda’s past games.
