After the roaring success of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout, it’s no surprise that the Bethesda video game series, which it was based on, is one of the biggest beneficiaries. Following the exciting cliffhanger ending of Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul’s story in Season 1, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout Shelter, and Fallout 76, all received hefty boosts in concurrent players, with the latter finally breaking the massive 20 million player milestone.

According to a Variety interview with Bethesda boss Todd Howard, Fallout 76 received a whopping three million player injection after the TV show’s release. And with Season 2 already in the works, the post-apocalyptic RPG series’ boost in popularity will likely continue well into the future. Of course, the success of Prime Video’s TV show and Bethesda’s video games unsurprisingly prompts questions about the franchise’s future. Luckily, Todd Howard has shed a sliver of light on their plans in the same article.

Towards the end of the interview, Howard said, “We’re in plans for future games in this series.” But since “games take a good five-ish years [to make],” [there’s] nothing to talk about right now, but we’re always planning,” he added. Now, this isn’t exactly a surprise since capitalizing on the visibility that the show provides is almost a necessity. However, it may be a while before we can expect another dystopian RPG to make its way onto modern-day consoles.

After all, Bethesda is also working on several different IPs, one of which includes the impending The Elder Scrolls 6 release date, so there’s plenty to look forward to if you’re a fan of the studio. Of course, the highly anticipated sixth series entry is also still a ways off, so instead, you can satiate your role-playing cravings by checking out when The Elder Scrolls Gold Road release date will be.
