Nintendo has dropped a new trailer for Bayonetta 3 ahead of the threequel’s launch later this month.
The new trailer gives us an insight into the no-doubt bonkers story of this third instalment, and it certainly looks like this one will be just as wild as its forebears.

The closing moments of the trailer are the most intriguing though, as we’re shown what looks to be a homage to famous Nintendo series Metroid. Check it out for yourself below.
Bayonetta as a series is no stranger to homages, of course. The first game – published by Sega – featured absolutely loads of nods to Sega games past.
They included nods to Sonic the Hedgehog, After Burner, Outrun and more – cumulating in an entire level that played out in a similar fashion to classic Sega arcade title Space Harrier.
These references were (arguably) toned down a little in the sequel, but its change of publisher to Nintendo allowed for a few nods to things like Mario and Zelda in Bayonetta’s costumes.
It’s not clear yet if this Metroid homage will last just for a level, or an optional minigame – but we don’t have long to find out.
The game’s been in the works for some time – first being announced as far back as December 2017. Many delays later, it was finally confirmed for an October release back this past summer.
It was recently revealed that alas, long time Bayonetta voice actor Hellena Taylor would not be reprising her role for the third game.
Speaking to GameInformer, director Yusuke Miyata said “Various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role.”
Instead, the role will be played by gaming voice acting legend Jennifer Hale – famous for providing the speaking voice of Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard among many other roles.
“I understand the concerns some fans have about the voice change at this point in the series,” explained Miyata. “But Jennifer’s performance was way beyond what we could have imagined. I’m confident that her portrayal of Bayonetta will exceed our fans’ expectations.”
We only have a couple more weeks left to find out.
