The World War II shooter was once a mainstay of the video game scene, but in recent years the trend has been to focus on contemporary or future scenarios.

Bulkhead Interactive (formed of two companies Deco Digital and Bevel Studios), who previously released Pneuma: Breath of Life, reckons it's time to return to the Second World War. Battalion 1944 intends to recapture the core of classic multiplayer shooters for the new generation of platforms.

The game is currently in alpha and looking pretty good, but it's here where fans need to step in. Bulkhead has invested its own money getting to this stage, but has now turned to Kickstarter to raise a minimum of £100,000 to go along with £100,000 of its own money to get the game finished.

You'll find much more info over on the Kickstarter project page, and also in the announcement video below.

A May 2017 release is planned for PC, Xbox One and PS4, though early access will be granted to some backers.
