Larian Studios’ juggernaut RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 has made its debut in EA’s The Sims as Maxis hides numerous references to the game. In the latest DLC pack, Life and Death, fans can discover multiple little nods to Larian’s game while locking virtual humans in swimming pools and the like.

The Sims nods at Baldur’s Gate 3

The new Sims 4 Life and Death expansion is a spooky-themed DLC for Maxis’ life simulator. Pyou can now host funerals, become a Grim Reaper and revive deceased Sims as Ghosts to haunt your simulated neighbourhood.

Just days after its release, fans have noticed references to Baldur’s Gate 3 within the new Sims 4 DLC. One item, the Sun and Stars Headstone, is a full-on soliloquy for Astarion, the beloved vampire companion (and/or lover) in Larian’s adventure.

“A grave that marks the end of an era and the beginning of another much more hopeful one,” reads the item description. “Perhaps this is the perfect gravestone to commemorate a cheeky little Sim who faced the trials of life’s shadowy depths, all the while craving the sun. Though, perhaps not the full, concentrated power of the sun after so many years spent out of it. Just a little bit of sun, as a treat, darling!”

There are more to see

After a player shared the item description on social media, a developer for the game revealed that they’ve hidden a lot more references to the game within the new expansion. The Sims 4 producer Molly Narkis explains that they personally snuck the reference into the game for fans of Larian’s RPG.

“That was me! Hehe,” the producer revealed on social media. “I’m glad someone found it. I also have another small one buried in there somewhere.”

While just a small reference, the arrival of BG3 references in The Sims is proof of the game’s legacy. For years and years, we can expect to see countless nods to the game as it remains firmly within the zeitgeist of gaming culture.
