Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 has been nominated for another Game Award, a year after sweeping the annual gaming awards ceremony in 2023. After taking home the coveted Game of the Year win, among others, Larian is now in the running for “Best Community Support”.
With Patch 8 finally announced for 2025 as the final “major” update before the studio leaves the Sword Coast behind for its next project, Larian has one more award to win. And, you know what, it damn well deserves it.
Baldur’s Gate 3 up for Community Support award
Shared by Larian on social media, The Game Awards has nominated Baldur’s Gate 3 for the annual “Best Community Support” award. Nominated alongside Final Fantasy XIV, Fortnite, Helldivers 2 and No Man’s Sky, it seems obvious that Larian Studios very much deserves this win.
“Nominated for Best Community Support, we couldn’t be more proud of our team, and this community,” Larian said. “Fuelled by your questionable fanart, delusional tyrant fanfics, and creative mods, we can’t wait to see you bring this energy to what’s next.”
Since the release of BG3 in 2023, Larian has not stopped adding amazing content to the game despite the fact that there’s little financial incentive to. Alongside No Man’s Sky, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a rare addition to the nominations in that it has no microtransactions at all—the developers simply add extra content for the love of the game and it’s fans.
For example, Patch 7 earlier this year brought an in-built mod manager to the game for all platforms as well as adding new evil endings to the game. Furthermore, the upcoming Patch 8 is planning to add an extensive photo mode, cross-play and 12 new subclasses to the game.
Really, the only actual competition in the Best Community Support nomination for this year’s Game Awards is No Man’s Sky, which has been nominated five times for the category. In 2020, the multiplayer game also won the “Best Ongoing Game” award at the celebration, but has never won the community support category.
Nevertheless, both of these games deserve a win, and either one taking the trophy would be a brilliant celebration of developers that care. However, if Fortnite takes the win, I’m coming for you, Geoff Keighley. I will not rest.
If you want your voice heard, you can vote for The Game Awards’ Best Community Support award as well as any other award in the very long annual celebration show we’re forced to watch and report on for work right here.
