Earlier this week, Larian Studios quickly changed its Twitter handle to “@Divinity” before rapidly changing it back. While we and a few other eagle-eyed fans noticed it, the Baldur’s Gate 3 developer explains that this doesn’t mean the studio is working on a new Divinity game.
In a statement on social media, Larian Director of Publishing Michael Douse explained that the studio was simply “taking stock” of the IPs that it owns, including the Divinity IP.
Earlier this week, Larian was simply making sure it had access to the Twitter handles for all its franchises, which led to someone accidentally changing the main account’s name.
“This is just part of the process to take stock of what we own,” the developer explained. “Turns out it’s a good idea to own the @’s relating to IPs that are yours. For examples, to prevent people scamming off the back of your brand.”
Douse revealed that the change in Larian’s account wasn’t the team’s fault, but someone at Twitter, as the company is assisting the company in reviving some of its old accounts.
“Twitter are transferring a bunch to us, but inexplicably swapped out this one for the Larian account,” they explained. “I wish it were more exciting, but we are still working away on multiple projects and don’t expect any announcements any time soon.”
At the time of writing, Larian Studios is officially working on two new games. With a brand-new storytelling department opened in the studio’s Guildford office, there’s an expectation that the Baldur’s Gate 3 developer is working on more beautifully dense RPGs.
In the past, CEO Swen Vincke explained that we probably won’t see anything from Larian’s next game until sometime in 2028 at the earliest. It’ll be a very long rest until we can find out what the studio is up to but, no matter what it is, we’re very excited to find out. Something to live for, ey?
While Larian tinkers away on its new project, Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are continuing to mod the game with one particularly massive mod team working on a giant custom campaign that takes players back to BG2’s City of Coin.
