With the absolutely massive Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 now out, fans may have noticed the absence of one key feature: crossplay. Despite the eye-wateringly huge Patch 7 patch notes, Baldur’s Gate 3 cross-play has been pushed into a later update.
Larian updates Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay
Revealed in a blog post detailing the new update, Larian revealed crossplay is still in the works at the studio. While a release date for the multiplayer mode wasn’t confirmed, it will be included in a major update alongside other fixes for the game.
“We are still working on bringing crossplay to Baldur’s Gate 3, and like Patch 7, this requires a lot of work and testing before we’re prepared to release it into the wild,” Larian explained to fans.
Larian confirmed there are “a few more patches in the works” that will bring even more features to the massive RPG. While these additional features weren’t revealed, Larian did confirm photo mode and other “updates” are in development for BG3.
While the lack of Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay is a little disappointing, Patch 7 is already a colossal update for the game with new endings, interactions and more. Instead of launching a broken crossplay feature, Larian will only release the new feature when it’s ready.
The end of an era
In the blog post, Larian teased waning support for Baldur’s Gate 3 as the studio moves on to its next project. Following on from announcements earlier this month that the studio is winding down BG3 support, the studio told fans that “eventually all stories must come to an end”.
“It’s time for the team to go back to our cave and hang the armour on the wall while we focus on bringing you our next project,” the developer said.
Nevertheless, Baldur’s Gate 3 development isn’t completely over, and Larian is still working on making the greatest RPG in years even greater.
