Assassin's Creed Odyssey brings some big changes to the series, and chief among them is that you can choose to play as either male protagonist Alexios, or female protagonist Kassandra.

Director Scott Philips recently spoke to GamesIndustry about this, and said that he thinks 'it would be a mistake to limit our players, limit our fanbase from as many people as possible.'

'I don't know why we would go back. We should continue pushing in this direction, bring in more players, more fans to enjoy this experience and make it their own experience,' the Quebec-based developer said.

While Assassin's Creed Syndicate saw you play as both the male and female Frye twins, Odyssey is the first AC entry where you can choose your gender before you begin. Fingers crossed this change is one that sticks in the upcoming 14 Assassin's Creed titles.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set to launch on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 5. And if you're in Japan, you can play it on your Switch, too.
