The Apocalypse Now video game Kickstarter is no longer the only way to fund the game’s development, with a complementary long-term crowdfunding site having launched at ApocalypseNow.com.
The original Kickstarter was seeking a minimum of $900,000, but after three weeks funding has stalled at around $173,000. The production team indicates it was always going to launch the second funding page, but doing so when the original Kickstarter appears to be failing makes things rather muddled.
Even more baffling is that the new funding page is seeking to raise $5 million, in addition to the Kickstarter $900,000. The aim is to reach around $6 million funding over the next three years, enough to create PC and major console versions for release in October 2020.
“We love Kickstarter. Many team members have been involved in many successful Kickstarter projects (seven total I believe?),” reads the Kickstarter update.
“However, it is not possible to fully fund the game on Kickstarter alone. It has never been possible. It will never be possible. And we have been building a complimentary-to-Kickstarter crowdfunding platform for a long time and this has always been the main strategy.
“Apocalypse Now requires a funding level that is not generally achievable on Kickstarter alone.”
ApocalypseNow.com promises to provide backers with the latest updates, and the ability for the community to guide and influence the progress of Apocalypse Now.
There’s also a way for early backers to receive the next tier reward at no extra cost.
With the situation currently so confused you can’t help but feel taking a break and coming back to it in a few months may be beneficial.
