Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently scheduled to release on May 26, 2026 for Xbox Series and PS5 consoles. Initially slated for a late 2025 launch, GTA 6 has just seen a lengthy delay into the middle of next year.

However, this might not be the only delay facing the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game. According to industry insider and reporter Jason Schreier, there’s “no guarantee” the open-world game will launch next May.

Will GTA 6 be delayed again?

In a recent report on Bloomberg, Schreier stated that Rockstar’s decision to delay GTA 6 has caused a ripple effect throughout the industry. Many developers had pushed their games to 2026 to avoid the game’s initial release date, and now plans are being changed to avoid its new one.

“For other companies, Grand Theft Auto VI slipping was cause for panic,” the journalist explained. “One developer working on a big multiplayer game told me that they had previously delayed their release date from Fall 2025 to Spring 2026. That was mostly because the game needed more time, but also to get away from GTA VI.“

Previously, Schreier reported that Rockstar employees never expected the game to be ready by the previously announced 2025 release date. Now, the reporter states that “there’s no guarantee that May 2026 is a sure thing.“

Rival publishers are also worrying about a potential second GTA 6 delay getting in the way of their own releases. Now that Rockstar has publicly delayed the game, they could delay it again, as they have with other games in the past.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that the next Grand Theft Auto game is going to be delayed for a second time, but it is a worry, especially for PC players who will have to wait even longer for their port in the future
