Microsoft has announced record revenue of $19.02 billion for the three month period ended December 31, 2009.

The software giant highlighted “exceptional demand for Windows 7,” and didn’t make much fuss about the Xbox 360.

The Entertainment & Devices Division accounted for $2.9 billion of the $19 billion, down from $3.26 billion in the same quarter 2008. This figure includes 5.2 million Xbox 360 console sales, down 13 per cent over the equivalent period in 2008.

Microsoft has partly attributed the drop in sales to a consumer “shift to Elite and special editions” of the console. The platform holder also stated that the Xbox 360 software “attach revenue declined, given challenging [year-over-year] comparison.”

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Xbox though, with a reported 35 per cent growth in Xbox LIVE memberships – there are now 23 million members worldwide.
