The single-player story mode for Red Faction: Armageddon will last somewhere in the region of 12 to 15 hours, according to the game’s lead writer. And when you do finish, there’ll be a new game plus mode too.

Earlier this week we got our first hands-on time with the latest entry in Volition’s destructive sci-fi series. In a break from the Martian carnage, we sat down with narrative designer Drew Holmes to get a few details on the single-player campaign.

“I think it’s probably going to be somewhere between 12 and 15 hours,” said Holmes. “It’s a good chunk, and we’ve got a decent amount of replayability.

“We’ve got a new game plus that we’ll be able to show off. You can crank up the difficulty, and anything you’ve used throughout the game, you’re going to be able to go through and play with it again.”

Like its predecessors, Armageddon is set on Mars and carries a heavy emphasis on destruction. But where the previous game – 2009’s Red Faction: Guerrilla – was an open-world affair, here the action moves underground, with a horror vibe.

Red Faction: Armageddon will be released on June 3 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
