This latest update isn’t likely to be of interest to most PS3 owners, but it is a sign that Sony is listening to user feedback. Some PS3 users had been reporting that the PS3 was reverting back to RGB Limited when the Full setting had been enabled. This new update should fix the problem.
Please note that this setting is only effective if connecting the PS3 to a compatible TV using an HDMI cable.
Sony says the new 1.81 firmware should be available shortly from PlayStation.com and users are already reporting the update is available from the System Update option on the PS3 XMB.
Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network Operations, who announced the new firmware over on PlayStation.Blog, has also confirmed that Sony is “continually evaluating and improving PS2 software compatibility too.“
It’s not clear if this means firmware 1.81 has improved compatibility, or just that Sony will offer updates in the future.
