Bioware revealed at E3 that it is introducing Kinect powered voice commands to Mass Effect 3. However, people hoping for something similar in the PS3 and PC versions via the Playstation Eye or a microphone will be left disappointed.
Mass Effect producer Casey Hudson says that voice commands are a 360/Kinect exclusive as the peripheral itself is able to do the hard work of voice recognition. In other words, Kinect’s hardware massively aids the voice command function rather than eating into system resources needed to run the game.
We saw a brief glimpse of voice command in action at E3, being used for both branching conversation trees and for relaying combat tactics.
Mass Effect 3 will be released March 6.
