A new Pokemon GO Update, 0.33.0 on Android and 1.3.0 on iOS, has rolled out to all users, though only a “subset” of players will get the brand new Nearby Pokemon feature which is being tested by developer Niantic.

“We’re currently testing a variation of the ‘Nearby Pokemon’ feature with a subset of users. During this period you may see some variation in the nearby Pokémon UI,” explained the patch notes.

As seen by users on NeoGAF, the new Nearby system shows players a picture of the Pokestop at which a specific Pokemon can be found, and the game even shows you how to get their. Certainly a big step in the right direction.

However, if your game doesn’t feature the new Nearby functionality you’re left with the new Sightings function only, which simply states which monsters are in the immediate area – replacing the three footsteps system.

You can see the full patch notes below:

  • Added a dialog to remind Trainers that they should not play while travelling above a certain speed. Trainers must confirm they are not driving in order to continue playing.
  • Made improvements to the accuracy of a curveball throw.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented “Nice,” “Great,” and “Excellent” Poké Ball throws from awarding the appropriate XP bonuses.
  • Fixed achievements showing incorrect Medal icons.
  • Enabled the ability for Trainers to change their nickname one time. Please choose your new nickname wisely.
  • Resolved issues with the battery saver mode on iOS and re-enabled the feature.
  • Added visuals of Team Leaders Candela, Blanche, and Spark.
  • Minor text fixes
