With the start of the Dragonflight pre patch we have been introduced to an entirely new playable race, the Dracthyr and with them comes a completely unique class, the Evoker. Not only are these both new additions to the franchise but they are an exclusive combo where only the Dracthyr can be Evokers.

What are the Dracthyr
The Dracthyr are a race of dragonoids that have been asleep for thousands of years, originally controlled by Neltharion who later became Deathwing they were sent to sleep by him when he realized he could not control them and feared the power they held may one day be used against him. So rather than risk this he put them into a form of hibernation where they have stayed, until now.

What are the Evokers
The Evokers are the brand new class coming to Dragonflight, this class has 2 specs similar to the Demon Hunters, a ranged dps with the devastation spec and a healer spec with the preservation spec. There is a lot of overlap between the 2 despite their separate rolls, both use the new empower spells which allow you to determine the power of the spell at the cost of a longer cast time, both have a lot of mobility with their movement abilities and cast while moving skills. To make up for these strengths however both have a slightly reduced range compared to other classes in similar roles so take this into consideration before you consider playing one.

Devastation Evoker
The dps spec for the Evoker is devastation and as the name implies this is all about big flashy spells doing tons of damage. While not the most complex class to play there are many small ways to maximize your damage and a lot of utility they bring to the table making them one of the more valuable specs to have in your group this expansion.

Preservation Evoker
Preservation has a very unique playstyle with its utilization of time magic to reverse damage taken by the group. That along with the green dragonflights magic to keep the heals flowing it is shaping up to be a very impressive addition to the healing roster of classes currently available. One downside that should be mentioned with preservation is the range issue. Where most healers have a 40 yard range, preservation has a 30 yard range. This means they may be unable to save those in need if they simply cannot reach them… We will have to see how the tactics for raid bosses work out, perhaps Blizzard will be designing encounters with this in mind and there will be no issues. We’ll have to wait and see…
