A Tears of the Kingdom gibdo can be as tough to kill as they are imposing. If you’ve started exploring the Gerudo Desert, then you’ve probably had your own brush with these spooky creatures. That’s why we’ve made this guide to make sure you know how to easily defeat any gibdo in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch.

You won’t need any fancy Tears of the Kingdom weapons to kill a Tears of the Kingdom gibdo, but make sure you’ve got a good stack of items to use Tears of the Kingdom Fuse, as you’ll be putting them to good use.

How do you kill a gibdo in Tears of the Kingdom?

Gibdos are highly resistant to most attacks. If you simply go in head first and try to kill them with melee weapons, you’re going to deal minimal damage, and probably end up dying in the process. That’s why you need to take a more creative approach to dealing with them.

Gibdos are weak to fire and lightning elemental attacks. By hitting a gibdo with an attack using one of these elements, it will deal a large amount of damage, as well as nullifying the gibdo’s defences. Once this happens, you can run up to it and start damaging it with a melee weapon as you would with any other regular enemy.

Later on in the game, you’ll find elemental weapons that will be able to completely nullify the defences of any gibdo, but early on, you’re going to have to make use of more on-the-fly methods. We think that the best approach to taking on a gibdo is to fuse a fire or lightning elemental item with an arrow, and shooting it from afar. The most readily available items to use for this will likely be Fire Fruit and Shock Fruit, both of which work equally well.

Spoiler warning for the Gerudo questline. Once you’ve completed the Lightning Temple with Riju and cleared the Sand Shroud, you’ll be able to use Riju’s lightning powers. This means you can summon lightning to hit an area around an arrow you’ve shot. Once you acquire this power, fighting gibdos becomes much easier, as you can hit even big groups of them with lightning to kill them.
