Is Star Wars Jedi Survivor canon to the larger Star Wars story? As with just about any new release in the series, this question is at the forefront of many people’s minds. Ever since Disney acquired the series and retconned a lot of previous stories, that is often brought up.

In this guide, we’ll cover whether Star Wars Jedi Survivor is in fact cannon or not. For more on the game, check out Is Star Wars Jedi Survivor co-op? and Is Star Wars Jedi Survivor a remake?

Is Star Wars Jedi Survivor canon?

Yes, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is canon to the larger overall Star Wars story. Following the events of Fallen Order, Survivor is set within the same timeline as all of the shows and movies you are seeing released. While you likely won’t see Cal Kestis appear in any of that media any time soon, you could see familiar characters appear in the game.

While Jedi: Survivor is connected to the larger Star Wars story overall, it is also trying to stand on its own. You may hear references to events in the past or what is going on in the larger story overall, but things will be largely focused on what is happening in front of you.

The goal here is to make a game that Star Wars diehards can appreciate as a building block apart of the larger story. At the same time, anyone who isn’t fully versed in the happenings around the movies and shows will want to feel they can understand what is happening with Cal.

When is Jedi Survivor set?

Jedi Survivor is set five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. In the timeline of the broader Star Wars universe, Jedi Survivor falls before A New Hope and the story runs concurrent to the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series and around a decade after Revenge of the Sith. As for a specific year, Jedi Survivor is set in the year 9 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin, i.e. the rebel assault on the Death Star in a New Hope).
