Remnant 2 Archon: Player fighting enemies in The Labyrinth.

Can the Archon archetype be unlocked in Remnant 2?

Yes, you can currently unlock the Archon archetype in Remnant 2. Unfortunately, while it can be unlocked, that certainly doesn’t mean it’s easy. Once the game released, fans datamined the game’s files and found references to the Archon archetype and an item called the Strange Box, which is required to unlock it. As it turns out, this was only a small part of the solution, and to unlock the Archon, there are a whole host of specific requirements you first have to fulfil. Let’s go through them now.

How to unlock the Archon archetype in Remnant 2

If you’ve fully explored The Labyrinth, you’ve probably noticed that there’s one portal that you can’t seem to open. This is the secret to unlocking the Archon, and you’ll have to have a very specific set of items equipped in order to do so. Here is a list of all of the items required to unlock the Archon in Remnant 2:

  • Explorer archetype with level 10 Fortune Hunter skill
  • Invader archetype with level 5 Worm Hole skill
  • Void Heart Relic
  • Realmwalker Armour
  • Ford’s Scattergun
  • Labyrinth Staff
  • Cube Gun
  • Leto’s Amulet
  • Amber Moonstone
  • Anastasija’s Inspiration
  • Black Cat Band
  • Zania’s Malice

Explorer archetype with Fortune Hunter skill

Once you beat the game for the first time, you’ll unlock the Explorer archetype. Level it up to level 10 to unlock the Fortune Hunter skill.

Remnant 2 archon: The Invader in the class select screen.

Invader archetype with Worm Hole skill

The Invader can be unlocked by beating the Bane miniboss which can be reached on the Root Earth biome. If you haven’t unlocked the Invader yet, our Remnant 2 Invader build has a detailed guide on how to do it. Once it’s unlocked, reach level 5 to unlock the Worm Hole skill.

Remnant 2 archon: The Void Heart Relic inspect screen.

Void Heart Relic

Complete the N’Erud storyline, and defeat Sha’Hala without using the Remnant 2 Override Pin. Head back to The Custodian for your reward and he will begin the process of teleporting N’Erud to Alepsis-Taura. Leave N’Erud and wait 12 real-time hours (yes, really). Travel back, and you’ll only be able to travel to Alepsis-Taura, where you’ll find the Void Heart Relic.

Remnant 2 archon: The Realmwalker Tunic in Whispers' store.

Realmwalker Armour

Head to Whispers in Ward 13 who’s armour shop stocks the entire Realmwalker armour set. It’s also the starting armour of the Explorer, so if you started a new playthrough as the Explorer, then this step is already complete.

Ford’s Scattergun

On Yaesha, head to the Red Throne and take on the Eternal Empress’s task of killing the Corruptor. If she asks for any items, refuse to give them to her. Kill the Corruptor and return to her to receive the Seal of the Empress ring. Equip it and head to the library just off from the main hall of the Red Throne, where a secret door will open to reveal the location of Ford’s Scattergun.

Remnant 2 archon: The Labyrinth Staff inspect screen.

Labyrinth Staff

Find the portal in The Labyrinth that swaps between different locations and turn left. Kill some enemies and proceed until you find a drop with a walkway below you. Jump down to it and walk across until you see a gap where a platform teleports in and out. Cross this gap when the platform appears and continue to an arena where you’ll face the Bastion miniboss. Kill it and head to the back of the arena where you’ll find the Labyrinth Staff.

Remnant 2 archon: The Cube Gun inspect screen.

Cube Gun

Beat the final boss of The Labyrinth, the Remnant 2 Labyrinth Sentinel. You will receive the Conflux Prism which McCabe can turn into the Cube Gun.

Leto’s Amulet

This one’s pretty tedious. Equip the heaviest armour you can until your dodge becomes a belly flop. Do this 100 times and then talk to Reggie in Ward 13 who will give you Leto’s Amulet.

Amber Moonstone

You can purchase this from Cass in Ward 13. Be aware that her stock changes every time you leave Ward 13, so if she doesn’t have it in stock, simply enter a biome and return to Ward 13 to check again.

Remnant 2 archon: The Anastasija's Inspiration ring in Whispers' store.

Anastasija’s Inspiration

Once you’ve beaten the campaign, you will be able to buy this from Whispers in Ward 13.

Remnant 2 archon: The Black Cat Band in Reggie's store.

Black Cat Band

This ring can be bought from Reggie once you’ve died a certain number of times. If you check his stock and he doesn’t have it, head into a biome and die a few times and check again.

Remnant 2 archon: Finding the Zania's Malice ring on Root Earth.

Zania’s Malice

Head to the Ashen Wasteland area on Root Earth and progress through the level until the first checkpoint. From here, follow the path forward until you reach a ramp. The wall behind the ramp has a small gap which you can crouch through to find a hidden area where this ring is located.

Once you’ve acquired all of the skills and items listed above, equip them and head to the portal in The Labyrinth that switches between exits. You’ll want to wait for it to show what appears to be a drop into the void. Wait a couple of seconds, and jump through, where a platform will suddenly appear for you to land on. Quickly run forward to the next platform and defeat the enemies you find here.

Remnant 2 archon: The switching Labyrinth portal.

Once the enemies are dead, head over to the second room on your right, where the previously inaccessible door was. If you’ve done everything right, and have the right gear equipped, the door will open. Step through and you’ll be in the Backrooms, an area based on a popular creepypasta that looks like a series of endless, homogenous rooms and corridors. In here, you’ll find the Strange Box, which is required to unlock the Archon.

You only have 90 seconds in here before you’re returned to The Labyrinth and have to start over, so we’re going to direct you exactly to where you need to go. Here are the directions to reach the Strange Box.

  1. Once you spawn in, take the first right.
  2. Immediately take the first right and continue straight ahead through a room and into another, until you reach a wall.
  3. Turn left, and head to the other end of this room.
  4. Turn left again and head forwards. Stop before you reach the dead end in front of you, and follow the path to the right.
  5. Continue down this path, and you’ll find the Strange Box at the end of it.

Once you’ve got the Strange Box, you’ll be able to take it to Wallace in the docks of Ward 13, who will craft it into the Hexahedron engram in exchange for some scrap and Lumenite Crystals. As for the Backrooms, there are two other items to be found there – a ring and an amulet – so it’s worth heading back in to try and get everything while you’re there.

That’s everything you need to know about unlocking the Archon archetype in Remnant.
