How To Unlock The Auction House

In order to unlock the Auction House in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you must defeat the Water-type gym leader: Kofu. For this, you will need to head on to Cascarrafa with your most powerful Electric and Grass-type Pokemons to counter Kofu’s kit.

Defeating Kofu In Battle

When you reach Cascarrafa to battle it out with Kofu, you should bear in mind that he has three Pokemons in his kit. These include

1. A level 29 Veluza
2. A level 29 Wugtrio
3. A level 30 Crabominable

Trainers should easily be able to beat this combination of Pokemon with Electric or Grass-type Pokemon of levels around 28 to 32. Here’s a table discussing Kofu’s Pokemon and their recommended counters which you can take along with you:

How The Auction House Is Unlocked

As soon as you interact with Kofu, some events will take place, resulting in the Auction House getting unlocked. These include: 

1. Kofu will run off to the auction stalls in Porto Marinada, where you will need to follow him.
2. In the auction stalls, you will be given a brief overview of how auctions operate in the market.
3. Once this overview has concluded, you can return to Cascarrafa gym to battle Kofu.
4. After you have bested Kofu in battle, you can return to Port Marinada at any time to take a look at the different auction stalls in the market.

How Does The Auction House Work

Once you have unlocked the auction house, you must learn how to use it to your advantage. The auction house items refresh every in-game morning, so any item you wish to buy won’t stay in the Auction House for very long. For this reason, you should keep checking back for any rare items in the auction every in-game day.

The bidding is very similar to any other auction where an item will have bids placed on it, and the highest bid takes the item. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you will be outbidding NPCs for ownership of items you want. However, you will need to be careful only to offer an amount you believe will make the other person fold. Otherwise, you might end up paying a higher amount than the item is worth.
