EVs, or Effort Value, are stat boosts to Pokemon that many players who have only played the older games won’t even know much about because of them being unseen until recently. Even in recent games such as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you have to know what you’re looking for to know about them.

However, there is only a specific amount of EVs that one Pokemon can have, and you don’t necessarily choose which stat the EVs go to. For example, you might have a Pokemon with a bunch of HP EV points when you want it to have points in the Attack stat instead.

In cases like these, you’ll have to reset the EVs of your Pokemon, which sounds easier said than done.

How to Reset EVs

In order to reset the EVs of a specific Pokemon, you have to feed it different types of berries based on what stat EVs it already has. Because you need to separately look for all of these different types of berries, the process itself can be pretty time consuming.

Every time you feed a Pokemon one of the below mentioned berries, the stat next to it decreases by 10.

Where to Get EV Decreasing Berries

The best way to get EV decreasing berries is from glistening spots all around the region of Paldea where you can pick them up, with most of them being around Areas One and Two of the East Province.

Additionally, there’s a vendor in the Porto Marinada Market’s Auction house where you can get some of these berries, although you’ll have to first complete the water gym challenge and participate in the seaweed bidding auction to unlock it.

Finally, you can also obtain 10 of each EV berry as a reward for clearing 151 rounds of the Emotional Spectrum Practice minigame’s Standard Mode: All-Out in Alfornada against Dendra. Reruns of this Gym Challenge unlock as soon as you beat Tulip and earn the psychic gym badge.

How to Check EVs

To check which stat EVs a Pokemon has, open the summary page of that Pokemon and press right on the d-pad to go to the stats page. Here, you’ll see a blue graph. Press the L button, and you’ll be able to see how many EVs that Pokemon has on each stat.

A single Pokemon can have a total of 510 EVs in total and it can be spread across all stats. Additionally, every stat has a max limit of 252 EVs, which will be indicated by the name of the stat sparkling. Although there’s no way to check the exact number of EVs you can still gain or have already gained so far if the graph turns light blue that means all EVs are maxed.

Final Thoughts

EVs are a very handy feature to master when it comes to Pokemon, especially if you’re into competitive gaming or nuzlockes. Nothing like getting some extra attack stats on your Pokemon to pack that extra punch.
