However, Egg Moves are a little more complicated than that since they don’t use either of the methods we just mentioned.

What Are Egg Moves

Egg moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are known as special moves that cannot be learned with the help of a Technical Machine (TM) or by leveling up. Instead, they are learned with the help of a Pokémon who already has them in its arsenal of movesets. There are two ways you could get them in the game, and shortly we’ll be discussing how.

One example of an Egg Move is the Belly Drum which can be taught to Azumarill with the help of a Pokémon who already knows the Belly Drum move. While the move is a pretty crucial weapon in Azumarill’s movesets, the Pokémon can’t learn it normally as it can do with the other moves it naturally has.

How To Get Egg Moves Through Breeding

Breeding is the old way to get a Pokémon Egg Moves. For that, you’ll need a male and female Pokémon from the same Egg group. The male will pass on the moves, while the female will determine the species of your newborn Pokémon.

You can also get yourself either a male or female Pokémon with the Egg Move you want to inherit and have the Pokémon called Ditto with you. Ditto can shapeshift into any Pokémon and breed, so you won’t have to get into the hassle of finding a Pokémon from the same Egg group.

If you don’t know how to teach your Pokémon Egg Moves in the game, there’s no need to fret. The process is relatively straightforward. Just follow these steps, and at the end of them, your Pokémon will have learned them:

  1. Go to Delibird Presents and get yourself a Mirror Herb. It will cost 30000 Pokédollars.
  2. Keep the Pokémon that has the Egg Move and the Pokémon you want to learn the move in your party.
  3. Hand over the Mirror Herb to the Pokémon you want to teach the Egg Move to
  4. Initiate a Picnic.
  5. The desired move will be passed on to the Pokémon.
  6. If you replace the Egg move with another move, the former will no longer be on the Pokémon’s move list, so you will have to learn it again.

Unable To Teach Pokémon Egg Moves In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

If you’ve been unable to teach your Pokémon Egg Moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, there can possibly be two reasons for this. The first one might be that the Pokémon you want to teach the move to has no empty slot to learn any new moves. So before you start a Picnic, make sure to make room for a new move.

The second reason might be that your Pokémon cannot learn a certain Egg Move. Not every Pokémon can learn Egg Moves, and some Pokémons can learn only particular Egg Moves.
