Where to Catch Houndour

What’s step one to evolving a Houndour? Catching one. If you already have a Houndour, feel free to skip ahead to the next section, but for those who don’t, here’s how you can acquire your own dark pup.

You can catch a low-level Houndour in the Inlet Grotto, next to the Paco Path Lighthouse. Just jump down into the beach from the Lighthouse and go into the cave.

Alternatively, if you are further into the game or want a higher-level Houndour, you can find them around the South Province (Area Four).

By the way, while according to its Pokedex entry Houndour is more active at nighttime, you can still find it during the day.

Lastly, you can find a level 20 Houndour through 2 Star Tera Raid Battles but given the wide pool of Pokémon that can show up for those, this option is pretty random. If you are still interested in this approach, you are more likely to face 2 Star battles when you have 3 Gym Badges (40%). The chances go down to 20% after you reach six badges.

All you need to evolve Houndour into Houndoom is to level it up all the way to level 24. That’s all. If you caught yourself a Houndour that’s already at 24, or above, then leveling up once more will do the trick. If you don’t feel like fighting for that level, you could always use a rare candy.

And since Scarlet and Violet allow you to remember past moves with ease, you don’t have to worry about missing moves from evolving it at a higher level or hunting down specific NPCs.

Alternative: Catch a Houndoom

If catching and training a Houndour all the way to level 24 sounds like too much of a hassle for you, you could always cut out the middleman and catch yourself a fully evolved wild Houndoom.

You can find Houndooms in the wild in the eastern region of Paldea, specifically either in the South Province (Area Six) or the Nort Province (Area Two).

The Houndooms in the North Province will range from level 24 to 60, but the one in the South Province will be level 42 (and a Ghost Tera-type Pokémon).

Wrapping Up

Turning a Houndour into a Houndoom is surprisingly simple. Just level up your Houndour until level 24, and you’ll get that familiar jingle and animation. If you caught a Houndour that’s higher than 24, leveling it up once, either through battle or using rare candy, will do the trick. And if you can’t be bothered to train a Houndour, you can always catch a fully evolved Houndoom in the North Province’s Area Two.
