Evolving Greavard may be tricky for some. In this adorable puppy’s case, he does not develop simply after reaching a certain level. Turning Greavard into the fearsome Houndstone requires more than that. And with that, let’s look at how you can evolve Greavard in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Where to find Greavard in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Greavard, the spooky puppy can be found in snowy areas, in Glaseado Mountain Region. In particular, you can spot them with ease around the Ghost-type Gym in Montenevera.
Catching a Greavard is rather taxing at first, as they tend to be playful and like messing you around. They conceal themselves under the thick snow, waiting for a person to come close before jumping out.

Simultaneously, Greavard will release a spooky cry, completely scaring unwary trainers.
However, Greavard does have one rather obvious ‘tell’, which you can use to spot them.. a candle on its head. Despite the rest of its body being hidden under snow, the candle will appear sticking out. You can use this to locate them.
How to evolve Greavard in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Evolving Greavard in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may seem complex but it is not as difficult as the rest of the special evolutions out there. Specifically for Greavard, you will only have to take note of two things in order to evolve him into Houndstone:
- Greavard must be at least level 30
- Evolution only occurs at nighttime
Unlike some Pokémon, there is a certain level that you must first reach to be granted the ability to evolve your Greavard. In this case, it is level 30. In addition to this, the evolution only happens at night.
It is also worth noting that Scarlet and Violet has a 30-minute day and night cycle, which prevents you from having to wait for too long. If you’re feeling impatient, you may change the time by closing the game, and modifying the time with the Nintendo Switch settings. Just be sure to adjust the time again once you’re done.
Time of the day can also be checked by bringing out your map and looking at the icon at the top., Make sure the icon shows a Moon rather than a Sun.
Once everything is set, Greavard will then transform into a menacing Houndstone. Even after evolution, its ghost-type will still be retained.
Can you get Houndstone without evolving Greavard?
The answer is yes! If you do not want to go through the process of training and evolving Greavard, you can find a Houndstone for yourself.
Houndstone resides in most parts of the Paldea, particularly around the cold northeastern of the map.
