Pokemon fans, especially those who grew up watching the Pokemon Anime, will be familiar with the cactus Pokemon that is Cacnea, mostly because of one of the most beloved character, James of Team Rocket having one.

Being first introduced in the Hoenn region, Cacnea and its evolution both make a return in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and luckily both finding one as well as evolving it is as straightforward as it gets.

Where to Find Cacnea

Although many Pokemon have multiple areas that they can be found in, Cacnea has an entire habitat. You’ll notice as soon as you reach the Asoda Desert area that Cacnea is REALLY common over there.

This is because, even according to the Pokedex, Cacnea are canonically only found in desert areas, similar to how cacti are. Just move around in the Asoda Desert and you’ll shortly come across at least one.

Additionally, if you get lucky then Cacnea’s evolved form, Cacturne can also be found roaming around in this area, However, don’t get disheartened if you don’t find one, as the chances of you coming across one are much lower when compared to those of Cacnea.

How to Evolve Cacnea

Luckily, as mentioned above, evolving a Cacnea is as straightforward as catching one is. All you have to do is level your Cacnea up until it reaches level 32, at which point it will naturally evolve into Cacturne. Neither do you need to use any evolutionary stones, nor do you need to meet any other special requirements.

Although you should be able to reach level 32 eventually as long as you battle both wild Pokemon as well as random trainers that challenge, you, it will most likely take a while. That’s where EXP candies come in.

If you want to level up your Pokemon quicker, simply use EXP candies on them, with higher rates candies giving more experience points. The fastest way of grinding EXP candies is by participating in raids, with the higher level raids giving better rated EXP candies.

If you want a passive way of leveling up your Cacnea, then consider sending it out to battle Pokemon while out in the wild by pressing the ZR button. This will make it so your Pokemon will engage in auto battles.

Final Thoughts

Although Cacnea and Cacturne, being a grass type Pokemon, have multiple weaknesses that can be exploited by any enemy Pokemon you come across, they also both have incredible base attack and special attack stats that you can use to your advantage to quickly end any battle.

That, coupled with how many Cacnea you can expect to see in the desert makes it all the more worth considering adding a Cacturne to your permanent party.
