Orthworm, the Lurking Steel Titan Pokémon, is another Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It’s one of the five bosses players have to defeat in the Path of Legends storyline and can be a real nuisance for inexperienced players to deal with.

Orthworm may seem like a very friendly beast you’d get from breeding a Voltorb and an Onix, but the Path of Legends boss is more difficult to beat than it may seem.

Players should know its strength and weaknesses before trying to beat the Lurking Steel Titan. Fortunately, this guide will take you through everything you need to know about defeating Orthworm.

How To Beat The Lurking Steel Titan

In order to beat the Orthworm, trainers should try to bring a party of Pokemon ranging from Level 25-30. Additionally, players should focus on training their Steel-type counters to be super-effective against the Lurking Steel Titan.

Lurking Steel Titan Location

Finding the supersized Titans is just as much of a task as trying to beat them, and Orthworm is no different.

Players will have to head towards Area Three of the East Province. From there, you can make your way east from the Pokémon Center.

Another path available a bit further into the playthrough is also available for players, as they can go North-West from the road heading out of Levincias Pokémon Center.

Lurking Steel Titan Counters

As mentioned before, you ideally want your Pokémon to have access to moves super-effective against Steel types. However, Orthworm gets access to a unique ability that’s just like Levitate, as it allows it to take no damage from Ground-type moves.

This only leaves Fighting and Fire-type moves as Orthworm’s weaknesses. Out of these, it’s recommended that you use Fire types as they’d be resisting the Lurking Steel Titan’s Steel-type moves.

They’ll also deal super effective Fire-type moves that are boosted by STAB (Same type attack bonus), so make sure you have strong Fire Types like Charcadet or Skeledirge in your party!

Lurking Steel Titan Battle Details

Unfortunately, beating this Titan isn’t as simple as depleting all of its HP points. After reaching its location, you’ll have to chase after it as it tries to avoid you by moving locations.

Once you can trigger the battle phase, knock it out, so it retreats into its tunnel again. You’ll have to battle it one more time before finally defeating it. Don’t fret, though! The last battle will be significantly easier since Arven will assist you.

Reward For Defeating The Lurking Steel Titan

Once you’re able to defeat the Titan Orthworm, you’ll be rewarded with the Herba Mystica special item. This item can be used to power up Koraidon and Miraidon to give them the High Jump ability, which is extremely useful in getting to certain places you wouldn’t be able to reach normally.

Final Thoughts

Defeating Orthworm is an important step that must be completed if players wish to progress in the Path of Legends storyline.

While some of the Titan Pokémon are tough to beat, it’s certainly worth the effort as you can get extremely useful rewards like the Herba Mystica in return.
