7 Ways to Find Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Utilizing the opportunity of playing an open-world Pokémon game, you can see a Shiny Pokémon from afar even before engaging with them. However, the chances of a Shiny Pokémon even appearing in the first place is only 1 out of 4096. For this reason, we have laid out several methods that will increase the odds of one occurring. So buckle up while we take you through all of those methods!
1. Get Your Shiny Charm
A Shiny Charm is a Held Item that can increase your encounters against Shiny Pokémon by 300%. This means you get a 1 out of 1365 chance of finding yourself a Shiny Pokémon, which is a massive increase. We highly suggest you get one before you leave for your Shiny Hunt. If you’ve never heard of it, we’ll show you how to get your hands on one!
How To Get A Shiny Charm in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
To acquire the Shiny Charm, you must complete the Paldea National Pokédex. You’ll also have to trade the version exclusive Pokémon from the opposite version of the game. Once that’s done, follow these steps:
- Go to Naranja/Uva Academy
- Head over to the Biology lab
- Talk to Jacq
After you complete these steps, Jacq will confirm the completion of your Pokédex and give you your Shiny Charm.
2. Make Shiny Sandwiches
Other than the Shiny Charm, there is another buff you can get in your quest for Shiny Pokémon by using a Shiny Sandwich. Each Shiny Sandwich has a Sparkling Power effect, increasing the odds of a Shiny Pokémon of a particular type. The Sparkling Power of a Sandwich comes from the amount of Herba Mystica used. The table below shows how different levels of Sparkling Power can affect your chances of getting a Shiny Pokémon:
Sparkling Power Level | Rate of Occurrence |
0 | 1/4096 |
1 | 1/2048 |
2 | 1/1365 |
3 | 1/1024 |
To increase the spawn rate for a specific type of Shiny Pokémon, use the Herba Mystica required in the recipe with the ingredient corresponding to the Sandwich made particularly for that type. With two Herba Mysticas, your Sparkling Power should be at level 3. You can get Herba Mystics by winning five and six-star raids if you don’t have any.
3. Masuda
The Masuda method requires you to breed two Pokémon to get a shiny one. You’ll have to use the Pokémon you want to Shiny Hunt and get a corresponding foreign Pokémon from the same egg group or a Ditto from a different Region/Language. The easiest way to acquire foreign Pokémon/Ditto is usually by trading with a player who has a different language.
After getting both of these Pokémon ready, follow these steps:
- Set up a picnic
- Put your desired Pokémon and the foreign Pokémon in your Party
- Feed them any Sandwich (Peanut Butter Sandwich)
- Keep checking the Picnic Basket for eggs
- Wander around the overworld to hatch the eggs once you acquire a sufficient amount (a Pokémon with Flame Body can speed up the process – i.e. Talonflame)
If you follow these steps correctly, the odds of hatching a Shiny Pokémon will bump up to 1 out of 682.
4. Second Shiny Roll (Mass Outbreak)
A Mass Outbreak can occur when a large group of Pokémon of the same species appears on a specific area on the map represented by a question mark. These last for 30 minutes, and every day a new Mass Outbreak appears. Furthermore, there can be four to five Mass Outbreaks per day with different Pokémon species for all of them.
When you see one on your map, head over to the area and defeat as many Pokémon as you can, and manually keep count. After you’ve defeated 30 Pokémon within the Outbreak, you’ll have a 1 out of 2048 chance of finding a Shiny Pokémon among all that spawn afterward.
5. Third Shiny Roll (Mass Outbreak)
Getting a Third Shiny Roll from the Mass Outbreak is similar to the Second Shiny Roll in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. It is highly recommended since it would give you a greater chance of having a Shiny Pokémon. Just kill 60 Outbreak Pokémon to make the chances rise to 1 out of 1365 flat without considering any buffs. Just be careful not to overkill them, which might cause the Outbreak to end.
6. Without Mass Outbreak
While Mass Outbreaks can drastically increase your chances of getting a Shiny Pokémon, it might not be of your desired species. That being the case, the steps below would allow you to find a Shiny Pokémon of your preferred species:
- Go to the spawn area of your chosen Pokémon
- Make a Sandwich of a compatible type that increases Shiny rate
- Auto battle the Pokémon and respawn/despawn till you find a Shiny one
- Make a new sandwich after the first one expires in 30 minutes(restart your game if you don’t find your Shiny Pokémon within 30 minutes)
Take your strongest Party to the area so that you don’t have to worry about the battling part and let the Pokémon themselves take care of it!
7. Picnics And Spawn Control
During your travel, you can set up a Picnic anywhere you’d like to take a break from the story. Whenever you set up a Picnic, nearby Pokémon despawn, and a new set of them spawn when you remove it. This can allow you to take control by repeating it until you get your hands on a Shiny Pokémon.
The collection of Shiny Pokémon has become a permanent trend for all Pokémon games and ones yet to come.
