In an effort to mimic a time before the advent of electricity and the trusty light bulb, nights in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are dark, eerily so. Luckily, you can pull out a torch to light your way through the pitch-black forests and dark caverns of Bohemia. And, if you’re darting around villagers in the dead of night, you’ll need to use a torch or have to deal with suspicious villagers and jobsworth guards more than happy to hamper you with a fine for slinking around in the dark. The process has been slightly altered from the first game and working out how to equip a torch can be a little tricky. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to use a torch in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

How to equip and use a torch in KCD2

To use a torch in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, tap the R button on your keyboard or hold the down button on your D-pad if you’re playing on console or with a controller. However, before you can pull out a torch, you need to make sure it’s equipped in your inventory.

To do this, open your inventory and navigate to the Other Weapons section, click on the Torch then tap E (or double click the torch) to equip it, or, alternatively, drag it into the torch slot on the right near the model of Henry, just below the armour and shoe slots.

How to get a torch in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

If you need a torch, you can buy one from most traders, including the one in the starting village of Troskowitz. Alternatively, most enemies and bandits have a torch in their inventory as do most NPCs, so don’t hesitate to pickpocket to get one. Pickpocketing also, conveniently, improves your Thievery level. You’ll often find torches lying around villages and buildings, too, but this is a less reliable method.

You can find bandits fairly easily by venturing out onto roads and into forests beyond settlements and villages. Fast travel events are also a reliable way to trigger a bandit encounter. Simply travel to another village and don’t flee when the event pops up on the fast travel screen.

Torches don’t degrade with use like weapons and armour, and maintain their 100 condition, so unless you lose track of yours or accidentally sell it, a single torch should see you through to the credits. If you do drop your torch, another one is never too far away.
