With the release of the Fortnite OG Season, many players want to enjoy the Split Screen feature in the video game. Unlike classic gameplay, this feature allows you to team up with your friends while playing on the same gaming system.

Considering that Fortnite is available on multiple platforms, nearly all of them can take advantage of the amazing feature. However, before you proceed, you will need to make sure that you have two controllers, one for each player.

Below is our guide that will explain the steps you need to take to play Split Screen in Fortnite.

How to play Fortnite Split Screen on Xbox

To play Fortnite in split-screen mode on Xbox consoles, you need an Xbox One, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X. Of course, you also need at least two controllers.

Once you are cozy on the couch and all the cookies are ready, follow these steps to play Fortnite on Xbox with a split screen:

  1. Start Fortnite by launching the app from the Home screen
  2. Log in to Fortnite as you normally would. You can use your own account.
  3. Create a Fortnite lobby on the home screen.
  4. Then press and hold the Xbox logo on the second Xbox controller for a few seconds.
  5. Once the controller is active, log in to the second Xbox account via the “Change Profile” section.

Epic Games fixed Split Screen

With the release of the v27.11 update, Epic Games brought the Split Screen back to Fortnite. The feature was disabled for a couple of days due to a bug.

When the characters of both players appear in the lobby, everything is ready. Do not be fooled by the fact that the screen is not split in two in the main menu. The screen is split when the game starts, that is, from the moment the map is loaded.

The split-screen session will end automatically if a player disconnects from the game or leaves the match manually. Also, both players must have the same language settings in their accounts. Or they can’t play in the split-screen mode.

How to play Fortnite Split Screen on Playstation

To play Fortnite in split-screen mode on Sony’s gaming console, you need a Playstation 4 or Playstation 5. Once again, you will have to use a second controller for Player 2. You may use Sony’s DualSense controllers or any other ones that are compatible.

Follow these steps to play Fortnite on Playstation with a split screen:

  1. Open Fortnite with your PlayStation Network account.
  2. Create a lobby for Battle Royale Duos and Squads.
  3. Open the second Dualshock and log in to the second player’s account.
  4. Then press and hold “X” and restart Fortnite.
  5. When two characters appear on the main screen, the process is complete.

You cannot play the split screen mode with a single PSN or Epic Games account. The second player must also sign in with their own account (or you can create a new account for free).

How to play Fortnite Split Screen on Nintendo Switch

Fortnite split screen mode is not available on PC and Nintendo Switch unless Epic Games releases a surprise update. The same goes for all mobile devices.

Besides this limitation, you can not use the Split Screen functionality in certain game modes, such as Creative, limited-time game modes, Save the World, or Solo mode.

Fortnite couch co-op limitations

While using the Split Screen feature in Fortnite, your screen size will be halved. This is not ideal, but unfortunately, there is no fix for it. Half of the screen will be taken by you, and the other half by your friend. Due to this, spotting enemies or arranging inventory can be somewhat tricky.

Another obstacle to Victory Royales will be the potential drop of frames. While the screen resolution will remain the same, Fortnite will have to render a lot more content, which could cause some issues.
