How to solve the Kummetz cipher in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

During the A Harsh Climb adventure, you’ll venture through the KMS Kummetz, a Nazi battleship balancing precariously on the edge of a deep precipice in the Himalayas. As you make your way through the ship, you’ll eventually reach the Officer Lounge, an unmissable mission beat. Inside, you’ll find a cipher machine sided by a set of lettered code reels and a locked door that requires a code. 

Your task is to use the documents and the code wheels in the room to decipher the code, the first puzzle of its kind you’ll come across, but not the last. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to solve the Kummetz cipher in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Kummetz cipher puzzle solution

The code to unlock the door in the Officer Lounge on the Kummetz is 3666. To find the code, you’ll need to insert the code wheels into the cipher machine in the right order then cross reference the word they spell out with the documents inside the office. To start, pick up the Captain’s Code document on the table, which explains that the code is JOGM. If you pick up the code wheels, you’ll see that each features a set of letters. The letter J appears on one, the letter O on another, and so on to complete the spelling of JOGM. 

Position the code wheels in the cipher machine in the right order – the wheel with the letter J in the first slot, the one with O in the second, and so on. Flip each of the dials to spell out JOGM on the top row. Close the lid and wait for the wheels to rotate to their new position.

Once that’s done, look at the row below JOGM on the cipher machine and you’ll get the word BLUT. Open up the Code Table document and find the word BLUT in the list, next to which you’ll find the number 3666 – the code needed to unlock the door.
