Fortnite has long been praised not only for its exciting gameplay, but also for its diverse range of cosmetics, which include skins, backblings, emotes, and pickaxes. Pickaxes stand out as especially handy because of their usage to gather resources which are required for building. The launch of Fortnite Festival brought with it a new set of cosmetics called Instruments which upon launch left players disappointed with the high price in the Item Shop. Many players expressed a desire to use them as pickaxes in the main Battle Royale mode, saying that such versatility would justify the price. Now, in Chapter 6, Epic Games has finally answered this demand, allowing players to use Festival instruments as pickaxes. Here’s how you can do it.
How to equip Fortnite Festival Instruments as a pickaxe
Fortnite has officially added functionality for Festival instruments to be used as cosmetic items in Battle Royale mode with the new 33.20 update. To use an instrument as a pickaxe, head over to your locker menu and click on your current pickaxe.
Once you’re in your pickaxe gallery, click on the Filter button, scroll all the way down to Instruments, and select it from the list. Then click on Apply and you’ll see all the Instruments in your cosmetic locker that are eligible to be equipped as a pickaxe.

Click on the preferred Instrument you want to use as a pickaxe and you’re done. You can use Mic with stands, Keytar, Guitar, and Bass as pickaxes in Fortnite Battle Royale, UEFN, OG mode, and Fortnite Festival. Drums are excluded from this cosmetic integration.
Can you use Instruments as backblings?
Yes, you can use the same instruments for backblings in Fortnite. To do so, complete the same steps as with the pickaxe and place it in your locker.
If you utilize the same instrument as a back bling and a pickaxe, it will alternate between the two items during gameplay when you equip a weapon and when you equip a pickaxe. However, if you’re looking for more that has arrived in Fortnite with the new Festival Season 7, check out how to get the Hatsune Miku skins.
