Foxes are a passive mob that was added in the Minecraft 1.14 update, along with other Village & Pillage updates. Because of their cuteness, most players want to tame and bring them along. This article will show you how to tame a fox in Minecraft!

How to Find Foxes in Minecraft

Foxes can only spawn in the cold biome such as Taiga, Snowy Taiga, and Old Growth Taiga. So we suggest that you should turn on the debug screen (F3) and look for the biome you’re in. Or you can easily recognize if it’s a cold biome by looking at the environment. (Look for Spruce trees or snow blocks)

Foxes spawn in a herd of 2-4 and there is a 5% chance for each fox to be spawned as a baby fox. They can also spawn with a random item in their mouths such as an emerald, rabbit’s foot, rabbit hide, egg, wheat, leather, or feather.

Foxes have 2 variants: normal orange foxes and white ones. White foxes can only spawn in snowy biomes. Remember that untamed foxes will run away from you, so Sneaking (Shift + Move) is recommended!

How to Tame a Fox in Minecraft

You can’t fully tame a fox in Minecraft just like cats or dogs. Instead, you can only increase their trust and make them not run away from you. Here’s how!

#1 Get Food for the Foxes

Foxes eat berries in general. We will guide you through each of them.

How to Get Glow Berries in Minecraft

Glow Berries grow from cave vines, which can be found only in lush caves. If you see something glowing in the dark cave, it must be glow berries! You can harvest them by right-clicking the vine.

Glow Berries can also be found in chests spawned inside the Mineshaft and Ancient City. They have a medium chance to contain 1-15x glow berries.

How to Get Sweet Berries in Minecraft

Sweet Berries can be harvested from sweet berry bush, which only spawns in taiga-related biomes. On average, each chunk in taiga biomes will have an 8.3% to spawn a random patch of sweet berry bush, up to 20.

When you’ve found the berry bush, simply right-click to harvest 2-3 sweet berries. Or you can just break the bush and still can receive the full amount of berries. You can then use the sweet berries to plant on your farm to get more.

You can also find sweet berries chests that spawn in Taiga Villages. Each chest has a 40.6% chance to contain 1-7 sweet berries.

#2 Tame a Fox

When you’ve found at least 2 foxes, sneak near them and use either glow berries or sweet berries to feed the foxes. They will enter love mode and start producing one baby fox. Because the parent foxes are not yours, they will run away immediately if you stop sneaking.

The baby fox is tamed but will follow its parent. So you will need to kill the adult foxes or lead the baby fox to your home. Or can wait for another 5 minutes and breed another baby fox. Then you can lead them both to your base for further breeding.
