The good news is that removing glamour from a piece of gear is completely doable and also rather straightforward. The bad news, however, is that it isn’t exactly free and as such you might end up spending money to remove something you already spent money to apply.

What is Glamour in Final Fantasy XIV

Before explaining how to get rid of glamour, we believe it’s important that everyone reading is on the same page regarding what the glamour system even is in Final Fantasy XIV.

To put it simply, glamouring a piece of gear means giving one gear the appearance of another. So what most players do is they give the appearance of a piece of gear they really like to a different piece of gear that looks worse but has better stats. This way, you have yourself a piece of gear that has good stats AND it looks good too. All in one you could say.

How to Remove Glamour in Final Fantasy XIV

Now that you know what glamour is, how do we remove it? Well, there is only one way of doing so, and as mentioned above, it isn’t exactly free. You will need one of two things if you want to remove glamour from a piece of gear, and those two things are

1. Glamour Dispeller
2. 500 Gil to buy a Glamour Dispeller (if you don’t already have one)

Fortunately, getting your hands on a glamour dispeller is pretty easy, as all you have to do is look for a vendor, as many of them sell glamour dispellers for 500 Gil (Hence why it’s the second thing you’ll need).

When you have a glamour dispeller in your gear, all you have to do is:

1. Go to your inventory
2. Look for the piece of gear you want to unglamour 
3. Right click on it, and click on the ‘cast glamour’ option that pops up
4. Towards the right side of the screen, you’ll see the option to ‘remove’ your glamour.
5. Finally, select ‘dispel’, and a glamour dispeller will be used up to remove the glamour from your gear.

One thing to remember is that it’s important to first click on ‘cast glamour’ before being able to remove it.

Many people look for the remove glamour option as soon as they right click on the piece of gear they want to unglamour, then assume there’s a glitch or something when they don’t see it.

That was all you needed to know about removing glamour from a piece of gear. Although 500 Gil doesn’t exactly mean the end of the world, we do recommend you glamour your gear only when you’re completely certain that it’s what you want, as every glamour removed is 500 Gil wasted.
