A diamond pickaxe is the second strongest pickaxe in Minecraft, it allows you to literally mine any block in the game. And today, we’ll guide you on how to craft a Diamond Pickaxe in Minecraft.

Crafting a Diamond Pickaxe in Minecraft

#1 Collect 2 Sticks

Stick is the essential item in Minecraft that plays an important role in many crafting recipes. To craft a stick, you will need 2 wooden planks of any wood type. Then put them on top of each other in the crafting grid to get 4 sticks.

Bamboo is another material for crafting sticks but they’re not very efficient compared to planks. Two bamboos will give you only 1 stick.

There are many other ways to get sticks naturally. For example, you can go fishing with a 0.2-0.5% chance to obtain a stick. Breaking leaves or dead bushes also have a small chance to drop 0-2 sticks. You can also fight witches for 0-6 sticks (and up to 15 sticks per witch if you have a Looting III enchantment).

Finally, you can find 1-12 sticks in the bonus chest (which can be found at the spawn location if you enable the bonus chest option when creating a new world). And chests in the village structure have a pretty high chance to contain 1-3 sticks too!

#2 Obtain 3 Diamonds

Diamonds are known for their rarity, multiple usages, and the aqua shiness in the dark caves. You can obtain diamonds in Minecraft in 3 ways:

Breaking diamond ores

After the Minecraft 1.18 update, the chance to find diamond ores has been reduced since diamond ores are rarely exposed to the surface. The best Y layer to find diamond ores is -59 or -58. So the deeper you go, the more diamonds you can find!

You can use a pickaxe with Fortune enchantment for extra diamonds per diamond ore. Normally, every diamond ore only drops 1 diamond. Note: this amount is increased by 1 for each Fortune level.

Find Diamonds in Chests

You can also find diamonds in chests located in many structures such as mineshafts, bastion remnants, buried treasures, desert temples, end cities, jungle temples, nether fortresses, strongholds, villages, and shipwrecks.

For fast diamonds, it’s best to look for buried treasure since they have a ~60% chance to contain 1-2 diamonds. While the most efficient way is to roam The End, End city. Each chest in the End city has a fairly low chance (21.2%) but they usually spawn with 2-7 diamonds.

Crafting from a Diamond Block

If you or your friends have any spare blocks of diamonds, you can put them in the crafting grid to get 9 diamonds.

#3 Craft a Diamond Pickaxe

When you have 2 sticks and 3 diamonds, right-click a crafting table and put 3 diamonds in the top row, then put 2 sticks in the middle column to craft a Diamond Pickaxe.

If you don’t want to use diamonds to craft a diamond pickaxe, try looking for chests spawned in the end cities or bastion remnants. They have a 13.3% and 6.7-13.6% chance to contain 1 enchanted pickaxe.

Moreover, you can trade 13-35 emeralds with the master toolsmith villager for 1 enchanted pickaxe.

Congratulations! Now you can go and mine the ancient debris to upgrade your pickaxe furthermore!
