  • To reach the surface, use the Permeation of Witching-Wards incantation to break the seal on the entrance.
  • Iron is used to unlock the Aspect of Medea, upgrade the Crescent Pick, and several Incantations.

Iron can be mined just like Silver but you’ll need to head to the surface to get it. It’s essential for crafting weapon aspects, upgrades, and incantations, so it’s worth stockpiling it as early as possible. Like all Hades 2 resources, there’s no guarantee you’ll run into it on your first surface run. Here’s where you can find Iron and what you can use it for.

Where to get Iron

You can mine Iron from stacks of cannonballs on the warships in the Rift of Thessaly region on the surface once you’ve unlocked the Crescent Pick. You can get three Iron chunks per pile. It can take a while as it isn’t as commonplace as Bronze ore deposits. Cross the city of Ephyra and beat Polyphemus to enter the Rift of Thessaly. As the Rift has you clearing multiple encounters on a single ship, it’s harder to get new resources. It requires a bit of luck as I’ve found multiple stockpiles on some runs and zero on others, but you can up the spawn rate by equipping the Crescent Pick before a run.

To reach the surface, clear the ward on the stairway next to the underworld entrance. This requires the Permeation of Witching-Wards, which costs x1 Cinder (beat Hecate), x1 Shadow, and x3 Moly (from Erebus). Shadow costs x30 Psyche, x30 Ashes, and x3 Fate Fabric. And to protect Melinoe from the health-draining curse, you’ll need the Unraveling a Fateful Bond incantation. This costs x2 Thalamus, x2 Lotus, x2 Nightshade, and x2 Moss. Thalamus can be created with Origin Seeds found at Chaos Gates. Lotus can be found in the Oceanus region while Nightshade seeds can be dug out in Erebus with the Silver Spade. Moss can be obtained from the surface.

What is Iron used for

Iron is used to upgrade your weapon aspects and gathering tools in Hades 2. In addition, some late-game incantations require this resource as well. Get enough of it and you’ll be able to use Hecate’s cauldron at the Crossroads to :mprove your odds on a run. Here’s a list of all the upgrades that need this resource.
