The first free Fortnite skin of 2025 is here! Serge, another member of the Fox Clan, is set to come to the video game. The skin was added to the game data with the v33.20 update, and Epic Games will release it shortly. While the cosmetic item will come to the shop at a later date, you have a chance to unlock it for free for a limited time. If you’d like to add Serge to your Fortnite locker, this guide explains how to do it for free. Keep in mind that the free skin has limited quantities, and you will have to compete against others to get it. However, the good news is that it’s available in both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes.
Is Serge a free skin in Fortnite?
Serge is a skin that will come to the Item Shop soon, likely in the last week of January 2025. However, you were able to get the skin for free on Sunday, January 19. Not only could you get it for free, but you also had a period of early access to it. To do this, you had to compete in the Fortnite OG Community Cup and finish it as one of the top players in your region. To unlock Serge for free, this is how high you need to rank:
Region | Placement |
---|---|
Oceania | Top 100 |
Middle East | Top 100 |
Asia | Top 100 |
Europe | Top 1000 |
Brazil | Top 100 |
NA Central | Top 900 |
NA West | Top 100 |

Once again, the larger the region, the more winners it has. Besides the free skin, top players from each region will also get the Surging Edge pickaxe. If you want to unlock the Surging Edge back bling, you will simply need to earn 40 points, while you will receive the Serge’s Surge wrap for eight points. These last two rewards will be granted to anyone who earns 40 or more points, regardless of placement.
The cup will be available in both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. To check when it begins in your region, launch Fortnite, open the Compete tab, and look for the OG Community Cup. For all the rules and details, please visit the official blog post by Epic Games.
