While all Battle Royale games have their own challenges, Fortnite’s movement mechanics are probably the most challenging. Especially when you add building, moving quickly and accurately becomes quite a skill. Fortunately, there is a solution: How to get double movement in Fortnite?

Chapter 4 Season 1 has brought many new things to the table. A completely changed map, the Battle Pass of the new season that was well received by the community, or the new weapons added to the game, and double movement.

In Fortnite, there are so many types of moves that you have to think and practice at the same time. You’ll have to move your character, aim at your enemies, build to get cover all at incredible speed.

While this is easier for console players thanks to the advantages of the controller, that is not possible for PC players. New players in particular are unaware of the movement limitations they have.

The technique called Double Movement exists to eliminate the limits in mobility. Until recently, PC players could not use this technique without third-party apps and software. Fortunately, Epic Games added it to the game and now we can talk about it more comfortably.

In this guide, we will explain in detail how you can use Double Movement in Fortnite.

What is Double Movement in Fortnite?

Fortnite’s technical infrastructure for mobility is the same as in all games. You can move your character forward, backward, right and left. To go diagonally, you have to press both directions. Thus, there is no key on the keyboards for that.

This problem does not occur with consoles thanks to the technical infrastructure of controllers. Therefore, console players can move more fluidly and quickly than PC players. PC players unconsciously limit themselves because they put extra effort into moving.

The term Double Movement describes exactly this. That is, it is not necessary to use two cardinal directions to go diagonally. This way, players who use the keyboard and mouse can move faster and more smoothly.

Before moving on to this mechanic that Epic Games has added or that you can use with third-party software, let’s finally give a mathematical answer:

When you press both cardinal directions, you go in an intermediate direction of 45 degrees. So if you press W and A together, you run in the left diagonal direction at a 45 degree angle. Remember this information, it will make much more sense in a moment.

How to Use Double Movement in Fortnite?

Now we’re in Chapter 4 Season 1, enabling dual movement can be done via Fortnite’s own settings. So you do not have to use any third-party software in the new Fortnite season.

How to enable Double Movement in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1:

  • Open the Settings within the game.
  • Open the “Mouse and Keyboard” settings, indicated by the keyboard-mouse icon in the top menu.
  • In the left menu, look for the “Keyboard Movement” section.
  • Activate the “Use Custom Diagonals” option.

When you enable this setting, you will see that the following two settings become active. These are the diagonal angles you can use to move your character forward or backward. Remember the 45 degrees we mentioned above? This is where you will change it.

You can still choose third-party software to use Double Movement instead of the in-game settings. Not all of them, of course, because Epic Games officially supports only two: Wooting and Keys2x.

With these two programs, you can simply activate the same settings. Which one you use is entirely up to you. The important thing is to find the settings that best suit your own play style, otherwise it does not matter which interface you use.

Best Double Movement Settings in Fortnite

Let’s get to the most important part. To move more smoothly and quickly, you need to determine at what angle you move in diagonal directions. We have checked the settings of many professional players and found an average value.

Players and streamers who play Fortnite at a high level use the following two settings for Double Movement:

  • Forward Diagonal Angle – best is 76° but you can use 65° to 78°
  • Strafe Angle – best is 90°
  • Backward Diagonal Angle – best is 135° but you can use 135° to 155°

Since the ideal move is always forward-looking, that’s what you should really care about. When moving in diagonal directions you will still be facing your enemies and will be able to control a wider area.

The area where Double Movement works best is building. During building that requires speed and sharp turns, these settings will put you in a very advantageous position against your opponents. If you work hard enough.

Is Wooting still good for double movement in Fortnite?

As it currently stands, you can still use Wooting, but you’re better of just enabling it in the Fortnite settings, thanks to changes made in Chapter 4 Season 1 updates.
