If you’ve never heard of a channel before, you might be wondering what an earth it is. Well, simply put, a channel is a special mechanism in Fortnite Creative that will allow you to create different outcomes for different devices, depending on the signal/trigger provided.

Channels work using a system of numbers. Each channel can be identified by a unique number. These numbers are then customized for a device under the option that uses the channel.

This allows devices to communicate with each other, by transmitting a signal onto a channel. To work, you’ll need to set up the device to receive the signal on the same channel, but more on this later.

Fortnite Creative: How to Use Channels

To use channels effectively, you’ll need to get your hands on a trigger device. Here’s how you can find and place one into your world:

• Once in Creative, press the tab key. This will open your Creative Inventory.
• From the devices tab, search for the trigger device. You can place it into your world from the menu, or choose to put it in your quick bar, to be used later. 
• Press the escape key to exit the menu. 
• You’ll need to connect the device to your phone. To do this, simply press P whilst looking at the device with your phone. This will bring up the customize screen, where you’ll do all of the technical stuff.

When you place a trigger device into your world, the device won’t be bound to any specific channel. You’ll need to change this, or else the device won’t be able to be used for anything.

Once you’ve customized your trigger device, you’ll need to place down a receiver. Receivers listen for the channel that you’ve created and perform a specific action upon hearing it.
