Does Star Citizen support VR: A giant, ringed planet with a bluish-white surface.

Does Star Citizen have VR support?

Unfortunately, Star Citizen does not currently have official VR support. While the game previously had some VR support, the developers have made the decision to shelve it in favour of prioritising more pressing graphical developments in the game, so put those VR headsets away.

While this is a blow to any VR fans looking to play Star Citizen, we have seen forum posts regarding people developing workarounds to get the game working in VR. However, it seems these tools are largely unreliable, with them being tricky to set up and prone to issues.

Will Star Citizen ever have VR support?

Luckily, it does look like Star Citizen is set to have VR support at some point in the future. As well as the game having previously had VR support, Cloud Imperium founder Chris Roberts has stated the studio’s intent to eventually implement VR for Star Citizen, with other development areas taking priority for the moment.

We think this is probably for the best in the long-run. The game is already somewhat infamous for its lengthy development time, and with a huge task like VR not being a necessity for the game, it seems smart to focus on development and optimization of the core gameplay before adding VR capabilities as a bonus.

That’s everything you need to know about Star Citizen VR support. In preparation for the Free Fly event, make sure your gaming PC can handle it with our Star Citizen system requirements guide.
