Grigoire The Galvanic Saint is just one of those endgame bosses that can be summoned in Diablo 4. He is a great introduction to boss summoning and fighting because he can be summoned already in World Tier 3. However, there is also the stronger version in World Tier 4. Plus, he has a chance to drop some great loot, so it’s very useful to head out and face him. We’ll explain how to find and beat him in this guide.
Grigoire Diablo 4 boss location – Hall of the Penitent
Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint is located in Hall of the Penitent, a level 60+ dungeon in the Dry Steppes, located just south of the Ked Bardu hub city. It’s a part of the monastery complex that you visit during the campaign.
How to summon Grigoire
Once you’re in the hall, all you need to do is head to the Chamber of Penitence down a few hallways and use Living Steel to summon Grigoire the Galvanic Saint at the Light-Touched Altar. This will spawn the boss and you’re able to take him on. You need different amounts of Living Steel to summon him, depending on the World Tier and difficulty:
Difficulty | Summoning materials |
---|---|
World Tier 3 | 2 Living Steel |
World Tier 4 | 5 Living Steel |
World Tier 4 Tormented | 15 Living Steel + Stygian Stone |
How to beat Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint
Grigoire the Galvanic Saint specifically uses Lightning elemental attacks, so it’s best to use an Elixir of Lighting Resistance and socket Topaz to gear so you can build up your Lighting resistances. We’ve found it most effective to keep your distance from this boss. His most common attack is to swing at you with his melee weapon, but this is easily avoided if you are far away from him. Make sure to stay behind him for this, as lightning orbs will appear and bounce around.
He’s also going to have chains of lightning that pop up in the arena. Look for the red mark on the floor that will appear before the lightning, and you can easily avoid these too. These will form a maze-like pattern that will change up what parts of the arena you can be in. This will keep you on your toes. Keep moving around. Luckily, a lot of Grigoire’s attacks can be avoided entirely. We’ve found that as long as you keep an eye out for the warning signs, and keep your distance from him, he’ll go down. Let’s go over his abilities and what to watch out for:
- Shocking Entry: Summoning the boss fills the room with lightning energy. Avoid any electrified tiles.
- Spark Strike: The boss swings his mace and releases sparks around the room. Move around and behind him to avoid most of the damage.
- Empowered Spark Strike: This attack is the same as above, but has a longer wind-up and hits harder.
- Thunderous Blow: The boss slams his weapon into the ground and causes electric reverberations. After a short charge-up, lightning strikes each marked location. Stay away from the marked red circles.
- Summon Knights Penitent: As the boss’ health goes down, he’ll summon Knight Penitent adds. Use your AoE skills to beat them down quickly.
Besides his abilities, Grigoire’s arena is a hazard in itself. After he falls below 80% health, they will start activating. Here’s what to look out for:
- Charged Pylons: Lightning pylons will spawn around the arena, dealing damage when you pass near them. These have a short charge-up time, so try to stay away from them. The trick is to avoid Grigoire’s attacks while staying away from the pylons as well.
- Galvanic Ascendance: When the boss gets to 60% health, he will use this move. He’ll teleport away and channel electricity into the arena. This charges up pylons, as well as certain tiles on the floor. Look for the pattern – out of 9 tiles, 7 will be electrified, and 2 will be safe. Use your Evade to get to a safe tile.
Tormented Grigoire version
There is an even stronger version of Grigoire that you can fight, called the Tormented version. It’s a part of the Diablo 4’s Boss Ladder system. The abilities are the same as above, but Charged Pylons now add a stacking debuff, making them far deadlier if you keep coming near them. To summon this version you’ll need to get a Stygian Stone, as well as three times the usual summoning materials – meaning 15 Living Steel! Beating the Tormented version nets you greater rewards, at a rate of five times the normal loot.
Grigoire boss rewards
Along with the item drops, Grigoire can drop the unique Demonbinder Mount Cosmetic which is exclusive to him. And if you fight him on World Tier 4, you’ll also receive a Shard of Agony, which is a summoning material used to fight the Echo of Duriel, making him a lucrative target for your endgame farming. Besides those, here’s what you can expect to get after beating Grigoire:
Class | Possible loot drops |
---|---|
