The defend the antenna objective is a troublesome part of the first Skyfire campaign mission in Space Marine 2. The endless Tyranids swarms alongside the Gargoyles attacking the cannon antennas make it a tough challenge, especially on harder difficulties. You’ll need to manage your resources wisely and know how to efficiently deal with the Gargoyles chewing through the antennas to succeed.. Here’s a look at the best ways to do it.
Defending the Antenna in Space Marine 2
Here are a few tips to defend the antenna:
- Grab a fast-firing Bolt Rifle with decent damage output
- Use the Plasma Pistol for charged attacks against elite enemies
- Collect and use grenades as often as possible
- Use Plasma Batteries to thin hordes
- Play co-op if you can
Grab the Auto Bolt Rifle
For the most part, each of the swarming Gargoyles typically goes down in a round or two, so you only need a reliable Bolt Rifle to defend the antenna. Before accessing the elevator that takes you up to the cannon, we recommend grabbing the Auto Bolt Rifle from the weapon drop pod.
Use the Plasma Pistol as a secondary weapon
There’s a Plasma Pistol at the back of the elevator platform you can access before ascending, alongside a Dataslate. Replace your standard pistol with this, as it will be very helpful later. When charged, the Plasma Pistol deals splash damage, handy for dealing with swarms that get a little too close for comfort. It’s also fantastic for dealing heavy burst hits to the Tyranid Warriors that spawn in near the antennas. However, don’t use it against the Gargoyles on the antenna as it’s ineffective.Â
In addition, there are a few weapons you can pick up earlier in the level too that are solid options for defending the antenna. After the ’15 minutes later’ cut scene, you’ll be tasked with defending the cannon with the Guardsman and can pick up a Bolt Rifle with a grenade launcher attached. This is one of the best weapons to carry with you to deal with the Gargoyles or clear the swarm. Alternatively, the Melta Rifle is a perfect weapon for nuking through the hordes. You can find one on the left behind some crates after you cross the bridge to the antenna facility. Get close to the antenna, then burn Gargoyles off with the Melta.
Scout for equipment drops
Scouting the roof for equipment drops to keep you topped up during the fight. The platform below has a few sources of med packs, different weapons, and grenades. Try to stock up here before moving to the floor above. You’ll find more weapons and pickups up there, too. Krag grenades are handy for dealing with elite enemies. You can also use them to destroy the gargoyles if you need to. Frags are better as basic horde thinners, handy for covering an area so you can thin the Gargoyles on an antenna in relative peace.
Keep an eye out for the blue and red plasma batteries lying around. Hitting these will make them explode, helping to thin the swarm. Fewer hordes equates to more time to deal with the Gargoyles on the Antenna without free of being overwhelmed.
Play the mission in co-op
If the task is a little to tough to take on solo, we recommend grabbing a co-op buddy as they are far more efficient than the AI squad mates and you can coordinate your actions. They’ll make much better use of the grenades to thin hordes while you work on clearing the Gargoyles from the antennas.
