Avowed is taking the players back to Eora, the world shared by the Pillars of Eternity games. We go on a detour to Living Lands, with new characters, adventures, and a completely different type of RPG experience. Like many other RPG games, the PoE series had a vibrant modding community, so it’s a small leap to look for mods for Avowed as well. So let’s see will Avowed have mods and modding support.
Are there mods and modding support for Avowed?
Officially, there is no mod support planned for Avowed during the game’s early days. However, that does not mean that the feature won’t be introduced in the future. For example, Steam’s Workshop would be the perfect place for fans and modders to introduce and explore new mods for the game. But, at this time, it doesn’t seem that Obsidian is looking to officially support modders.
Looking at Outer Worlds, another similar(ish) Obsidian game, the mod support was absent as well. However, that didn’t prevent modders from offering a few tweaks. Admittedly, that mostly fell into the realm of reshades, lighting mods, textures, and other similar small touches. Nothing near the scope of, say, Skyrim mods, or even nascent Baldur’s Gate 3 mods. Still, that means there’s hope for some modding for Avowed later down the line.
Lastly, the future’s not set in stone, so Obsidian can opt to introduce full modding support once the game hits the ground running. Previously mentioned BG3 had unofficial mods since its early days, but full mod support was introduced by Larian a year later. Seeing the success and increased longevity of the game stemming from a vibrant mod community, perhaps the Avowed devs could do something similar. Only time will tell. We’ll be watching how it unfolds and update you if modding becomes a reality for Avowed as well.
