If you’re a long-time fan of the Assassin’s Creed series, you’re probably no stranger to the level cap mechanics in the franchise. Assassin’s Creed Shadows follows a familiar pattern, much like past titles such as Brotherhood and Odyssey. While Valhalla was a bit of an exception, and Mirage skipped traditional levelling altogether, Shadows brings things back to the classic model. And just like in previous games, there’s a good chance that the level cap will be raised through future patches, updates, or DLCs. With that, read on to find out the current max level cap in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Max level cap in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, explained

The max level cap in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is initially set at 60. You can reach this cap by gaining experience from the main campaign, side quests, assassination target rewards, and more. The return to a more traditional levelling system will likely be a welcome change for those who weren’t fond of Mirage’s narrative-driven progression or Valhalla’s sprawling skill trees with a max power level of 535. But don’t let the level 60 cap fool you – it’s not the only measure of your progress.

While levelling up is important, there are other ways to improve Yasuke and Naoe outside of just gaining experience. The level 60 cap is certainly high enough to keep players engaged for a while, but progression in Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t end there. You’ll also earn Mastery and Knowledge Points as you play, which further increase your power.

✓ Shared levelling

Both Naoe and Yasuke share Mastery and Knowledge Points, as well as their character levels, so you don’t need to worry about levelling each character individually. This makes progression more streamlined and gives you the freedom to focus on advancing your characters as a whole.

Other Progression in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

While you can reach the traditional level cap, there are plenty of other ways to boost your characters’ skills in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Gaining experience will increase your base stats, but Mastery and Knowledge Points allow you to unlock and improve abilities across six different skill trees for both Naoe and Yasuke. Mastery Points are earned not only by levelling up but also through side quests, defeating specific enemies, and more. These points are essential for upgrading your abilities and unlocking new ones.

Meanwhile, Knowledge Points are earned by completing exploration-based challenges, such as Kuji-kiri or Kofuns, and affect your Knowledge Level. This level determines the tier of abilities and buffs you can unlock in the skill trees. To make the most of your Mastery Points, you’ll need to focus on earning Knowledge Points, as they allow you to unlock more effective skills and passives.

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, levelling up is just one part of the journey, as we touch on in our review. By levelling up and spending both Mastery and Knowledge Points, you can shape your characters into powerful Assassins ready to take on any challenge.
