A YouTube video of a dedicated God of War II fan achieving a staggering 999,999 hit combo has revealed a mysterious website that may allude to the forthcoming God of War PSP release.
As the size of the impressive combo escalates and reaches its total, a website address appears briefly onscreen. Visiting the URL, islandofrhodes.org, reveals an ambiguous promotional webpage, featuring a counter ticking down to the 11th April, framed by Kratos’s sinister face and a burning field intersected by a path.
It is hard to tell if the original YouTube video is genuine fan material or a sly piece of viral marketing, as though the footage is certainly amateurish, its appearance on the internet could not be more perfectly timed as a marketing tool. Regardless, the website itself is certainly genuine as it is registered to Sony Computer Entertainment America, though no more information on the page’s meaning is available at present.
Details of the handheld version of the popular series are sparse, though the countdown on the website suggests that on 11th April more information on the title may be made available.
A curious detail is that islandofrhodes.org includes an ESRB ‘M’ grade content rating for the game it is apparently promoting. A quick visit to the ESRB website reveals that as of yet God of War PSP has not been assigned any rating.
Fans of the series are eager to discover how God of War PSP will fit in with the two PlayStation 2 titles, meaning the website is bound to generate a flurry of excitement across the internet.
