Welcome to the Rumour mill, VideoGamer.com's run-down of the big rumours currently doing the rounds in the video game industry. Every week we'll hunt down the juiciest stories and give our opinion on how legit they are. So, whether you want the ridiculous or the plausible, read on.

God of War's Kratos to appear in SoulCalibur IV

The Rumour: Kratos, the chain-wielding hard man from superb PlayStation exclusive action series God of War, will make an appearance in the PS3 version of upcoming fighting game SoulCalibur 4.

Verdict: The source for this one is US magazine EGM (via 1UP), which has been going for absolutely donkeys years, so we're inclined to believe this one. The 360 and PS3 versions of SC4 already have an exclusive playable character each - Yoda and Darth Vader from Star Wars, respectively. And both have the Secret Apprentice from upcoming Star Wars action game The Force Unleashed, too. If Kratos is to appear in the PS3 version of SC4, then we reckon the 360 version will have another exclusive character added to the roster - Master Chief anyone?

MS to allow third parties to make hardware that plays 360 games

Microsoft games

The Rumour Microsoft may begin to allow third parties to create Xbox 360 hardware.

Verdict: EGM's doing well with the game rumours this month. This one also comes hot off the US mag's press (via 1UP). Yes it sounds bonkers, but there may well be some truth to this one. We remember that Toshiba we're rumoured to be manufacturing an Xbox 360 with a built in HD-DVD player a while back. Obviously that's out of the question now, given Blu-ray's victory in the high definition format war, but that doesn't mean the premise of the idea has been ditched as well. We reckon this one makes sense, and we can't see it damaging MS in any way. Could a Blu-ray player manufacturer take MS up on its offer? The mind boggles.

God of War 3 to be shown at E3 2008

The Rumour: The third game in the wicked God of War series will be shown by Sony at E3 next month.

Verdict: This one comes from French website Jeaxactu.com (via NeoGaf). We can't be sure how reputable the website is, since, us being Brits, we can't make head nor tail of it. The idea of the game, which has already been confirmed for the PS3, being shown in some form at E3 seems to us like a no brainer. Sony needs a big AAA reveal, just like MS does, to get its fans excited. This could be it. We suspect a trailer and a ton of screens, but no playable code, unfortunately.

Blizzard will announce a brand new game at the weekend

The Rumour: Image on official site points towards big reveal at Paris Worldwide Invitational event.

Verdict: Check out Blizzard's official website right now, and you'll see an eerie blue image that's got its fans all over the world gibbering with excitement. What could it be? Warcraft 4? Diablo 3? World of Starcraft? A new console game? A brand new IP? Blizzard will be announcing a new game at the weekend, that's for sure. What it is? We'll have to wait and see.
