PlayStation and parent company Sony are going hard on video game movies following the end of their run of atrocious Spider-Man spin-off flicks. Alongside the soon-to-release Until Dawn, PlayStation Studios is also working on a Helldivers film and an adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn. (A God of War TV series is also in the works at Amazon.)
Speaking to VideoGamer ahead of PlayStation: The Concert, Horizon Zero Dawn composer Joris de Man explained that he has not been approached to work on the upcoming movie. After spending years writing the soundtracks for both Zero Dawn and its sequel Forbidden West, de Man would love the opportunity to composer the film’s music.
Horizon Zero Dawn composer wants to work on the film
In the interview, de Man revealed that the soundtrack for the PlayStation games have done “unexpectedly well”. With millions of streams on services like Spotify and Apple Music, fans have connected with the composer’s melodies, and the composer would love the chance to be involved with the film.
“I would jump off the f**king Eiffel Tower if they asked me to do that,” de Man exclaimed. “I would love to do it. Yeah. Absolutely… without trying to sound like I’m some sort of arrogant b*stard, it’s really nice to know that the music has done unexpectedly so well, and so obviously I’d love to be involved.”
The composer explained that they are actively looking to expand their talent to more film and TV work anyway. If they have the chance to work on the music for the Horizon Zero Dawn film, which will hopefully be based on his work anyway, it would be the perfect match.
“It was sad that there was a TV series that was in the works [at Netflix], but sadly that got cancelled.”
HORIZON COMPOSER JORIS DE MAN
“Funnily enough, film and TV is a sort of career path that, for the past six, seven years, I’ve been looking at expanding into,” he explained. “It’s tricky because when you’re a game composer, people don’t always take you seriously. When you say you’re a game composer and people don’t know games [they’re like] ‘what does that mean? Is that Candy Crush Saga?’
“I’d love to be involved, and we’ll see what happens with that. It was sad that there was a TV series that was in the works [at Netflix], but sadly that got cancelled.”
At the time of writing, the Horizon Zero Dawn movie has no public release window. For more from our chat with Joris de Man, read about his thoughts on a Killzone Trilogy Remaster, or even a new game.
