The console war is fought everywhere these days, but the internet seems to be where people are most vocal. It also serves to give each console its own set of downloadable content, fuelling the war even more. Each week we'll give you a run-down of what's available to download on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, and declare a winner.

Note: This round-up is based on UK releases to each console's online service. Releases outside of the UK could vary.

PlayStation 3 - PSN

The main release on the PlayStation Store this week is the MGS4 Database. This comprehensive resource provides all the information you'll need on the Metal Gear Solid series. It also recognises your save game files in order to prevent spoilers from being shown. Seeing as it's completely free there's absolutely no reason not to download it.

Other free content this week includes the World of Warcraft song for Guitar Hero III, a demo of Capcom's PSN game Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 and numerous trailers. For less than a pound you can also download the Nigel character add-on for Pain.

Xbox 360 - Marketplace

It's quite a bumper week of new content for Xbox LIVE Marketplace this week, with demos of Top Spin 3, Don King Presents: Prizefighter and Lego Indiana Jones. Xbox LIVE Arcade also sees two new releases, with Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm and Ticket to Ride each available for 800 MS Points. Happy Tree Friends is a puzzler of sorts and Ticket to Ride is based on a popular board game. Sadly neither is particularly brilliant, so we advise you try out the free demos before purchasing.

Also available is new content for Frontlines, Rock Band and Ace Combat 6, videos for Fable 2 and CoD4 and numerous themes and picture packs. The Frontlines Boneyard multiplayer map is our pick of the bunch, extending what is already a very solid large scale FPS.

Head to page 3 for a look at this week's Wii releases.

There are no new WiiWare games on the Wii this week but we've got five new Virtual Console releases. Pac-Attack originally hit the SNES back in 1993. As anyone familiar with Pac-Man should expect, Pac-Attack involves an awful lot of eating, but this time the goal is to keep the screen clear by eating the falling blocks and ghosts. Super Fantasy Zone was released on the Mega Drive in 1992 and tasks you with destroying the evil Menon Guardians. Like its predecessors it's a side-scrolling shooter, but it features improved visuals.

The NEOGEO game King of Monsters will set you back 900 Wii Points and sees you taking control of giant monsters in epic battles to the death. If the retro might of the NEOGEO isn't your thing then maybe the Commodore 64 games Cybernoid and Summer Games 2 will be to your liking. Cybernoid received brilliant reviews on its release back in 1988, with critics praising its visuals and intense shoot-em-up gameplay. Summer Games 2 sees you competing across cycling, equestrian, fencing, high jump, javelin, kayaking, rowing and triple jump.

Virtual Console

Pac-Attack: 800 Wii Points

Super Fantasy Zone: 800 Wii Points

King of the Monsters: 900 Wii Points

Cybernoid: 500 Wii Points

Summer Games 2: 500 Wii Points

And the winner of this week's DLC Royal Rumble is...

Xbox LIVE Marketplace

In a very respectable second place this week is the Wii, with a solid selection of Virtual Console releases. Xbox LIVE Marketplace takes victory though, offering plenty of free content, two full XBLA games and numerous game add-ons. Although offering the least amount of quality content, the PS3 is no disgrace in third place thanks to the release of the MGS4 Database.
