The console war is fought everywhere these days, but the internet seems to be where people are most vocal. It also serves to give each console its own set of downloadable content, fuelling the war even more. Each week we'll give you a run-down of what's available to download on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, and declare a winner.

Note: This round-up is based on UK releases to each console's online service. Releases outside of the UK could vary.

PlayStation 3 - PSN

With the PlayStation Store currently undergoing some major enhancements there are no updates this week, so we'll skip straight onto the Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 - Marketplace

This week the premiere game for Xbox LIVE Marketplace is undoubtedly Ikaruga. This classic shmup comes to the 360 complete with online co-op play, practice mode and online leaderboards. It's considered one of the best shmups ever made and for good reason. Playable game content elsewhere is actually rather slim, with only a demo for SEGA Superstars Tennis and two Poker Smash add-ons being an option for bullet dodging noobs.

The Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack ViDoc is well worth a look too. As is always the case with these mini documentaries released by Bungie, the production quality is superb and you get a good insight into the making of the new map pack.

Head to page 2 for a look at this week's Wii Virtual Console releases.

Wii Virtual Console

We can't remember the last time the Virtual Console was updated with four new releases, so to get two for the C64 and two for the Master System feels a bit like Christmas. California Games and Impossible Mission are both classics from their day, although they do feel more than a little dated these days. The two Master System games, though, don't excite quite as much. Wonder Boy is a pretty basic 2D platformer and Fantasy Zone is a rather unremarkable shoot 'em up. Neither has aged all that well.

Virtual Console releases

California Games (C64) - 500 points

Impossible Mission (C64) - 500 points

Wonder Boy (Master System) - 500 points

Fantasy Zone (Master System) - 500 points

And the winner of this week's DLC Royal Rumble is...

Xbox 360 - Marketplace

Again, with no new content for the PlayStation 3, it's a battle between the Xbox 360 and Wii. Four new games is a strong offering for the Virtual Console, but it's the quality of Treasure's Ikaruga which wins the day. California Games and Impossible Mission are indeed classics, but they're only really going to be of interest to gamers looking for a bit of nostalgia.
